EM-841 | Ion Pulse Manipulator / Dual Gate Delay
TANGO is a dual-channel pulse manipulation, temporal displacement, and rhythmic synthesis instrument built around four cascaded CMOS monostable timing stages. Designed to transform the duration, placement, and periodic relationships of electrical events, its architecture combines precision gate processing with an unconventional approach to pulse generation, synchronization, and autonomous rhythmic modulation.
Each channel incorporates two sequential timing stages. STRIDE / INTERCEPT TIME governs the interval preceding a generated pulse, while MARK / SPACE RATIO determines its duration and, during periodic operation, its proportion relative to the intervening space. Both parameters are continuously adjustable over an approximate range of 1 ms to 1 second, permitting fine temporal offsets, narrow trigger impulses, extended gates, and widely displaced rhythmic events.
The two channels may operate independently or as a unified four-stage timing network. Channel I is internally normalled to Channel II, enabling successive timing operations from a single incoming event. Independent gate inputs permit separate timing sequences, while dedicated SPQR I / II reset and synchronization inputs provide additional control over the timing cycles.
A distinctive feature of TANGO is its capacity for autonomous oscillatory operation. Through external feedback between pulse outputs and synchronization inputs, the monostable stages can be configured into self-sustaining timing networks, extending the architecture beyond conventional one-shot operation. These configurations permit independently cycling pulse sources, variable rhythmic relationships, and complex polyrhythmic interactions.
The combination of adjustable pulse displacement, variable duration, cascaded timing, and feedback-based oscillation makes TANGO particularly effective for percussion synthesis, clock manipulation, generative sequencing, and experimental modulation. Four individual timing-stage indicators provide visual feedback, while independent channel outputs and a combined logic OR output offer additional possibilities for constructing and recombining rhythmic events.
