Closed & Open Hi-Hat Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

A modular algorithmic Eurorack hi-hat synthesizer featuring both closed and open hi-hat sounds with hi-hat choke. When the closed hi-hat is triggered, it automatically mutes the open hi-hat, just like on classic drum machines.

The sound of this synthesizer is generated using mathematical algorithms and then shaped and modulated by analog filters, resulting in a distinctive sound reminiscent of classic vintage drum machines.

The controls are simple and intuitive. The front panel features 8 controls and 3 connectors.

The first two potentiometers in the upper left, DECAY CH and DECAY OH, control the decay length of the closed and open hi-hats respectively.

Below the DECAY controls are two independent LEVEL CH and LEVEL OH controls, allowing the volume of the closed and open hi-hats to be adjusted independently.

In the upper right corner, the BRIGHT control adjusts the metallic brightness and overall tonal character of both hi-hats.

Below the BRIGHT control is the HUMAN button, which controls the amount of humanization, adding subtle variations between consecutive hi-hat hits.

The selected humanization level is indicated by three LEDs:

Green LED – the hi-hat sounds the same on every hit.
Yellow LED – mild humanization; each hi-hat hit sounds slightly different.
Red LED – strong humanization; individual hi-hat hits have more noticeable variations.

Once the desired humanization level has been selected, the corresponding LED lights up and flashes after approximately 5 seconds. The flash indicates that the selected setting has been automatically saved.

The HUMAN setting is retained even after the system is switched off and powered on again. There is therefore no need to remember and manually restore the preferred setting after restarting the system.

Two switches in the center of the panel enable or disable the output at the OUT connector. The status of each output is indicated by two LEDs above the OUT connector.

The closed and open hi-hats share a common output with a built-in mix, allowing both sounds to be combined at the OUT connector.

Next to the OUT connector are the TRIG CH and TRIG OH connectors, which are used to connect trigger signals from a sequencer. The LEDs next to the TRIG CH and TRIG OH connectors indicate incoming trigger signals.

Both hi-hat sounds can be triggered by either a 5 ms / 5 V pulse or a 5 V gate signal. The hi-hat is triggered at the beginning of the pulse or gate signal.
