Hi everyone.
Weird velocity bug on the LXR Drum Module. All the accents inputs on the lxr drum module do not work as intended. If you send an Trig with high velocity and after it a trig with low velocity the velocity change of the LXR will always be one step too late.
This bug is officially known by erica synths, but they do not fix it, which is really a shame...
Is there a way to choose a preference of not automatically swapping modules when arranging/rearranging? It's so easy to slip or overlap. It becomes difficult sometimes to find where the swapped module ended up. I know there is a rack lock feature, but I would like to be able to arrange and manually swap when necessary, without locking it entirely.
Also, would you be able to split the difference when zooming in and out? I find that the sweet spot for my rack would be halfway between what is too big for my screen and what is too small. It makes pretty big jumps.
Thanks so much for all you do!! Your service is invaluable to the community!
Maybe Legios would have to be tamed for Ambient House :D
Love Pam, you get used to the menu and the base features are pretty instinctive, but still just one button, so if you have multiple euclidean voices to change on the fly, it is not the most immediate.
Never tried it but vpme's Euclidian Circles V2 seems interesting.
thanks for your thoughts! I really need to study on your reply and see what modules you propose.
I like to make some kind of Ambient-House. For drums I want to be able to both sequence tracks and play with randomness. Pamela's Pro Workout can take care of eucledian steps and randomness. To be able to sequence I need to rely on some other stuff. I am going to dive in your proposal!
Hello!
Cool project.
It would help to have a bit more context.
What type of music do you intend to make?
What level of control do you envision (randomness vs programmed sequences vs playability etc.)?
What type of drums sounds do you prefer ? (analog vs digital)
How much HP?
Here's a stab at a 4 part skiff I would like to build
I'd clock with a Pique, it has two tracks (so the second one can be used as LFO for modulation). Then sequence with a Steppy (plenty of options, randomness, playability, memory slots).
Then I would have 4 Noise Eng Legio modules...they released a ton of firmwares (Kick, percs etc.). They give you a good range of sounds, some modulation cv inputs etc. - and you can repurpose them as oscillators, filters etc. in the future (I use the Tymp Legio for kicks, and like it -it can mix and duck an input)
I would then get them all through a module with fx send/return like mega tang and add an effect...clocked delay for ex. like FX Aid.
Some Legio modules can mix an input, so one can chain them, eliminating the need to add a mixer.
Again, really depends on context, objectives, and budget. One good module with modulation can also be great drum kit of course.
I currently have an Arturia Drumbrute for adding drums to my eurorack synthesizer. I am considering to replace it with an Eurorack build drum rack. Any advice on where to start? Which modules for drum sounds? What kind of sequencer to use for programming. I am already planning for the ALM Pamela Pro Workout as being the heart of the rack for clocking and eucledian patterns. Thanks for your suggestions!
I just finished patching this instrument - mostly for techno and dub.
bass
- tymp with fx aid, ducked with pique envelope, quadratt and the dual vco 1u, and outed on the second channel of Xoh
- triggered with one track of steppy
- notes from melodi
Kick
- FM drum from second pique, through track 4 of mega tang
Snare / HH
- the 2 SYO5
- High hat decay modulated by LFO 1u
- both go into track 1 and 2 of the VCA
Effect
- send return of mega tang on desmodus
- the mega tang outs on track 1 of xoh
- FX aid for the bass
Synth
- Brooks with notes from Melodi triggered with one track of steppy and an envelope on the first pique
- goes to track 3 of vca
the little doepfer switch
- gives me 2 diff kick tracks, 2 diff snare tracks, from steppy
- and allows me to switch brooks from square wave to sine
Filters on everything except the kick (no more room), but the fm drum on the pique is very playable and can be modified a lot
Anyhoo.
Anything you'd add or remove or structure differently? I try to maintain the limitation of the 104hp 4u case, but find that I have roughly 15 mins of playability. After that it feels like I am repeating myself...
any idea?
maybe swap the brooks with a small sample module to get different sounds ?
I would sacrifice the ochd and put a Synthrotek MST '07 Buffered Multiple next to the Pam's
to set up a common clock and start/stop/reset with the drums, and sequencer, and the rest.
There's lots of function generation and audio processing there,
but it needs maybe two more voices for them to chew on and wobble.
You have four drum voices and they would benefit from a 4 channel stereo sub mix.
Maybe pair that stereo mixer with your MFX, placed next in the chain.
That's an interesting and versitle set of modules.
here's my edit:
It's a tough layout with so many larger modules.
I dropped Maths, it's so big and you've maybe got some Pam's EGs that can kinda do some of that.
It's the earlier Pam's and I don't know it. But yeah, you could use some envelopes now.
I kept the osc and utilitiy function generators bunched in the upper left
and to get some modules closer to each other. The upper left looks nice, a complete interesting sparkle voice.
The addition, a Monumatic gives you wide stereo polyphonic variety and washes to feed those fancy fx.
I moved the sequencer over there because that's where the action is with marbles, midi, and clocks.
Not ideal, but better, and moves the intellijel voicing closer to the mixer and the mults above it.
The bottom row is clock, drums, submix, fx, and mixer. I chose the Doepfer A-138s mixer. Good as anything.
I'd like to hear that row.
should keep atlantix and i kick out dixie and buy another vco?
I think the Atlantix will be great for your system because it has a lot of possibilities that you otherwise don't have:
Through-zero FM with set ratios
Bandpass
ADSR
Sample and hold
Noise
Never underestimate simple noise. It makes your filters sound gritty, introduced instabilities, and noise+a/d envelope+vca=rudimentary hihat. Sample and hold introduces stepped random anywhere in the system. I would say that both are necessary building blocks, useful in any system.
Shapeshifter is a really good sound source and would suit techno and ambient patches.
another VCO or shapshifter, should i buy with it a separet filter and adsr
I feel that you need at least one filter per VCO. Often the filter adds more flavour to the sound than even the oscillator itself. Even in your current setup, I would prefer one more filter. You may want to filter an effect, the Basimilus, etc. I have two VCO in my own system and four filters.
An ADSR is great if you will be playing on a keyboard. If you are only using the sequencer, Maths can make an ASR. You have enough envelopes with the four AD from Quart and the two AD/ASR from Maths.
So without the Atlantix I would go for : VCO, 2 filters, ADSR only if keyboard, some kind of noise/S&H source like Noise Tools 1U Intellijel.
Seems fine to me. I guess only you can decide if you are missing sounds. (dedicated) Hihats maybe for techno?
Or I guess Dixie is very similar in sounds to the Atlantix. Maybe a different flavour of sound source will be good. ALM Cizzle, Intellijel Shapeshifter, Erica Black Wavetable VCO, many others are available. Anything wavetable, FM, digital, samples(?) gives you more sounds to play with.

Thank you very much for your reply and for your work on the firmware. In fact, this is the version I am planning to use.
I would like to know if you have any information regarding the behavior of pattern modulation via CV. If the track controlling the patterns is on a clock division of 16, will the pattern change correctly at the start of each new pattern? Also, is the pattern switching instantaneous when triggered via CV?
-- mycose
Well, I don't think this behaves like a queued pattern change that always waits for the next pattern start. From what I understand, the pattern changes when the CV value changes and the routing is processed. So if your control track changes value every 16 steps, the pattern should change around that moment, but I wouldn't want to promise perfect "change exactly at the next pattern boundary" behavior. At the moment I don't have time to test this specific setup, so I'd treat it as supported in principle, but not guaranteed as a tight synced pattern-switching feature. I'd suggest moving this discussion to the Modwiggler forum, where maybe you can find other people interested in this specific behavior and ready to test it: https://www.modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4507886#p4507886

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to modulate the number of the pattern in playback with the CV of a track. For example on each step have a pattern number and read the steps randomly. I guess yes by reading the manual, but someone has already tested it or could test it for me? Thanks in advance.
ps: I don't have a performer yet, but I'm seriously considering equipping myself with one
-- mycose
Hello,
speaking for my firmware: yes, this should be possible.
You can use a track's internal CV output as a routing source and route it to the Pattern parameter of another track. So one track could generate stepped/random CV values, and those values could select patterns on another track.
I haven't tested this exact patch recently, so I don't want to overpromise the details, but conceptually this is supported. You may need to adjust Min/Max and the CV range to get clean pattern selection...

Super versatile, gorgeous sounding module, I already thought about getting a second one.
For its size it packs an enormous punch.
I made huge sounding techno kicks with it . But even standalone it can do a bunch of things thanks to the engines and the envelope matrix (you can send the envelope to harmonics, emphasis, pitch and parameter).
Different Filter types 2p/4p LP , Bandpass 2p .... can sound very acidic but also quite soft.
VCA built in is also a biig plus.
If you are looking for a small "all in one" voice this is the one!
Ok. I'll try Harmonaig again, study how you and others are using it, and try and figure it out.
I have four of those blue QZVCOs that could be interesting with it.
I really like the idea of it, but I was having such difficulty sequencing it the CVs it wants
in the order it wants, and could never find the melody/chordings I was looking for.
Mosly from difficulty in setting those three modals using a stepped CV, precisely.
I'll take another look at it, and thank you for your assistance.

Do you mean the Doepfer A-110-4 QZVCO? That could be fun!
Some considerations:
Just because Harmonàig has four CV outputs, keep in mind that not all musical contexts benefit from full blown 7th chords! Comp like you would a guitar or piano accompaniment. The 3rd is the most important interval after the root, of course. It defines tonality. Often the 5th can even be omitted without losing harmonic context, unless you’re going for a particular voice-led cadence. In a iiø, V7, i progression, the 5th can play a bigger harmonic and melodic role.
Honestly, I keep my patches to triads most of the time. I’ll maybe only add a 7th if I’m in a minimal minor tonality and the minor 7th adds some nice character. A triadic V-I still resolves without the dominant7th, which can be overkill in the wrong context.
TZFM voices are very powerful in terms of timbre, but on their own those blue VCOs are just quadrature sine wave generators. To get the TZ harmonic timbres, they need a modulator. And as the fundamental roles reverse, with the modulators define pitch and the carriers (TZ) define timbre.
Let us know how you get on!
And if you need Harmonàig support, don’t hesitate to ask :)
(But maybe over email rather than on the MG forum under an unrelated module!)

I got a Harmonàig. Afford isn't the consideration.
I was dissapointed that the thin bare board and gold nuts aesthetic seemed so cheap, that and its frequent stray notes.
Flaky meh firmware.
Still have it, and it always looks like it should be interesting, but I can't find a good place for its 18hp.

sorry to hear you're having harmonic issues.
Did you ever reach out for technical support?
The main circuit boards are 1.6mm FR4 which is pretty typical for PCBA. The faceplates are also FR4, but are 2mm thick to bring them up to a more typical spec of faceplate thickness.
Harmonaig always works fine for me! 🤷♂️
Perhaps theres something in your rack adding excessive noise to the bus board?
As I say, reach out if you need support ☺
Here's a link to a new video i produced for the Harmonaig. It was long overdue an update! Its 10th anniversary seemed a suitable time to shoot it.
Thanks, if only I had all these modules ,-) I have the Black Noise attenuverters, nice concept but unsuable once patched, so I'm think of moving to After Later Merge (at least the knobs are on the top). Mind telling me where you woudl put additional mults, I'm not that experienced yet, but I thought of near the enveloppes...
I recently had the chance to sit down with Girts Ozolins, founder of Erica Synths, for a conversation about modular synthesis that goes beyond specs and features.
We talked about the ideas, communities, and creative thinking behind the machines, the development of Eurorack modules, and how a company approaches building instruments in such a constantly evolving scene.
I wanted to explore the thinking behind the instruments, not just the instruments themselves.
Watch the full interview here:
I'd love to hear your thoughts, since this video revolves a lot around community and how it shapes an entire field and makes connections. I want to hear from the community itself
I think Replicant2501 is probably right, a rack with twose two modules ranks 33% for each of oscillator, noise, and filter. But 0% drum (which is NOT in the function list) whilst Brains is also tagged drum, but that is consistent.
That is interesting, I am curious how that works too. At first I was going to guess that maybe some of your oscillators were not tagged as such--I have seen many modules in the database which are not tagged with all of their functions. But all of those in your rack are marked as "oscillator", so that can't be it.
I wonder if it does the calculation not by the number of modules, but the number of functions instead?
As a really simplistic example: Suppose we have a rack with only two modules in it: a Behringer Brains and a Wasp filter. If we're counting by the number of modules we have one oscillator out of two total, so 50% oscillator. However, if we are counting by function instead we have one oscillator out of a total of 5 functions: Drum, Noise, Oscillator, and Synth Voice from Brains + Filter from the Wasp. That calculation gives 20% oscillator.
It looks arbitrary mixed to me.
to much B.-clones for my taste.
I see no consistency.
Maybe it helps, if you work out what you want to do with this rack first - and then align stuff till you see this concept in your rack.
But maybe you know what you are doing - and I just dont get it.
Since I just upgraded to Unicorn I wanted to see what Rackommend would have to say about my current 'target' rack ().
Well it says I am very low on oscillators whilst I have 5 oscillator modules (Pico Voice & VCO, Morphor VCO, Behringer Waves and Halos) over a total of 44 modules. For me that's a bit more than 11%, Rackopmmend calculates 5%... this calculation is mystery to me ,-)

Interesting setup. I noticed you only selected one VCO and I don't see a midi in or sequencer. I assume maybe this will be in a seprerate case? And plenty of filters and FX. Is that your plan to take one sound source and just modulate the heck out of it?
-- ZipTronic
It's for audio manipulation.
Ableton - rack fx - back to Ableton
I am doing live fx manipulation on existing audio and recording it live on Ableton. Then I look for a unique loop to build entire composition on
Dump the fixed filter bank, it's not much fun.
Replace it with spreading around active mults to share those generated signals.
Stuff's sort of scattered all over that rack.
Mostly because how modules are built, but also from tradition, the easier layout, going left to right is:
clock/input->gen cv/en/lfo->osc(s)->filter+en->vca+en->fx->mix->out
Consider what's next to each other, down the line. Is it a nessecery pairing (vca and it's env)
or a convienient or usual pairing? Or the heart of a thing you just want to hear work together?
Put them close. Then pair the pairs.
Why? Its the wires. People forget about the wires.
Two footers, back and forth along the interface, then all the shorter connects woven in-between.
For me, it's a distracting pain having to dig thru the nest to find a label or tweak a knob.
I know that's also the point, the switchboard, the drape, and eurorack's fun is uniquely that.
I'm just saying, stuff's sort of scattered all over that rack.

Nice setup !!! May I suggest if your one a budget switching out Pams Workout for Allen Synthesis Europi. Does everything Pam's does and much more and for half the price.. Anyway I like your choices...I still have about 16 hp left to fill and I am thinking I need a distortion module in there somewhere. I have the Citadel FXwizard which has great distortion but can only use one fx at a time.
its amazing, lovely and noisy a-f. pairs extremely well with the a-108 filter, and sending the direct taps out to CV inputs of said filter sounds like nothing else. funny you guys found each other so randomnly!

You're right about the a-108!
