You are purchasing a Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion effect pedal for guitar (or bass!)Despite being associated with some pretty famous musicians (Fruciante, Cobain, etc) I still can't help but think the DS-2 is still a little bit 'slept on' (maybe I'm wrong).The DS-2 is not simply a DS-1 with a Turbo mode, it is a distinct circuit (transistors for the DS-2 vs the opamp DS-1) that has a very different character. The DS-2 is more aggressive and edgy: a snarling, high sustain distortion. The Turbo mode doubles down on the crazy mids and is obviously intended be a cut-through lead tone; boy, does it do that!This particular example was made in April of 1996, and has the Germanium clipping diodes, as opposed to the later Silicon ones. I mention this because I have noticed (as have many), that Ge components are more sensitive to things like temperature and this can lead to some variance in tone from session to session. I personally like stuff like this because it makes the pedal seem 'alive' to me; like it has moods. Perhaps I am weird...The pedal itself is in great condition for a 30 year old pedal! It functions perfectly, and comes with the original box and manual.I am selling this and other pedals as part of an effort to clear out all this gear that I have no time to play these days!
