Two-channel trigger generator / CV-slope analyser
General usecase
Wiretap is a two-channel CV-slope analyser meant to be patched between a pitch CV source and its destination.
Wiretap will track the CV and send triggers whenever it changes in a notable way, so you can easily turn melodies into rhythms and trigger musical events without the need of an additional trigger sequencer.
Difference to other slope detectors
Regular slope detectors recognize motion or “states” – rising, falling, moving, still, larger, smaller or equal – and set their gate outputs high according to the current state.
As long a voltage is rising, the rise gate is high. But when a voltage jumps from one note to another, which is usual for sequencers and keyboards, a common slope detector would send only a very short gate.
Wiretap works differently, as it examines the incoming signal for changes in state or motion, e.g. it triggers each time the signal starts to rise, fall, move or jump.
The gate length can be set from short trigger pulses to proper gates independently from the incoming signal using the Gate time knob.
Multi-function envelopes
Wiretap’s two hold-release-envelopes are actually simple envelope followers with a very short attack and an adjustable release (decay) time. Meaning, the max level is actually dynamically set by the input signal and not a fixed voltage.
They can either be triggered from Wiretap’s gates (normalized to the Rising and Falling outputs) or from external sources plugged to the envelope input jacks. They hold the input level while the input is high and decay to 0V when the gate goes low.
