CV to MIDI, arduino based with open source software.
This is a general purpose Arduino based platform designed for CV to MIDI conversion applications (not MIDI to CV !).
It is based on an Arduino Nano or Nano Every.
Typical functions: simple CV to MIDI, multiple detuned voices, chord generation, pseudo-granular, tintinnabuli, CV control drums, triggered drums.
The intention is to provide a reasonably flexible platform with basic open-source software that can be tailored to individual needs and operated without the need for tiny LCD displays and “menu diving”.
The module has:
• 7 front panel controls. All of the controls generate voltages that are processed by the Arduino. Any processing (e.g. attenuverter functions) needs to be done in software.
• A front panel CV input dedicated as 1V/octave:
o Input range: -1.5V to +5.5V (7 octaves)
o Resolution (theoretical): 7mV, 12 cents
• Four general purpose CV inputs on the front panel.
o Input range -5V to +5V
• Two digital inputs: one dedicated as a gate input, the other is uncommitted.
• Two mode selector push buttons with associated LEDs
• One LED indicator (on D13)
• MIDI output (TRS-A)
• MIDI input (universal TRS-A or TRS-B, auto switching)
With the exception of the “1V/OCT” input scaling, all of the inputs and controls are uncommitted to any specific function by the hardware – what they do will depend purely on the software.
The PCB also has a standard PC “waveblaster” connector that can be used to install an optional sound module for internal sound generation, the following have been tested:
- Dreamblaster S2 from Serdaco BV (tested)
- a “hacked” M5stack MIDI module (tested)
All of the above use the Dream SAM2695 General MIDI chip. The audio output from the waveblaster module is via a stereo (TRS) jack on the front panel.
Module is available as a DIY project only.
