One pitch in, up to forty-eight bowed strings out. THRENODY opens a single V/OCT from unison into a cluster two octaves wide, sends every player sliding on a path of its own, and presses the bow until it scrapes. The players spread across a stereo pair.
Each player has its own bow, vibrato, drift and slight mistuning: a room of players, not one sound made thick. SPREAD opens the cluster, GLISS sends the players wandering or mirroring through the centre, and BOW runs from flautando through ponticello to an overpressed scrape. GATE bows them in one after another; with nothing patched, they drone.
