EM-406 | Voltage-Controlled Phase Shifter
TOMAHAWK is a four-stage phase-shifting instrument built around a continuously variable modulation architecture, combining exponential notch positioning, voltage-controlled waveshaping, and regenerative feedback for complex spectral movement.
Its internal oscillator traverses a broad frequency range of 0.008 Hz to 40 Hz, from nearly imperceptible phase displacement to rapid, audio-rate modulation. A dedicated Waveshaper continuously transforms the oscillator's contour between opposing hyper-triangular geometries, passing through a symmetrical sine wave at its center position. Unlike conventional fixed-waveform phasers, TOMAHAWK allows the character and directional emphasis of the sweep itself to be sculpted, with independent voltage control of waveform symmetry.
Phasing Amplitude governs modulation depth, while Exponential Notch Shift positions the phaser's spectral notches across the frequency spectrum. An independent frequency CV input with bipolar attenuverter enables precise external control of the phasing network.
The Peak Emphasis circuit introduces progressively stronger regenerative feedback, intensifying the resonance of the shifting notches until the network enters self-oscillation. An external LFO input permits complete substitution of the internal modulation source with envelopes, sequencers, or more elaborate control signals.
